i don't really believe that though. autumn is sort of sad, watching things die and wither away all the while knowing that its going to get colder before its going to get any better. however, i do have hope that dc winters are milder than those in kc. it barely dips into the 50s and everyone dons their winter coats. the leaves are still green and people all around are bundled up in pants and boots and i even saw a few scarves. this gives me hope, because obviously these dc people don't know what cold is. just yesterday i was able to turn off the ac for the first time this fall. i'm debating about investing in flannel sheets - will i need them? i'm not sure. so anyway, i'm getting geared up for whatever the next few months will bring.

i am so happy for october, because it means that we are taking the class i've been looking forward to: genetics. i finally feel like it's my chance to excel because if anything, my undergraduate experience focused heavily on molecular genetics. it is a breath of fresh air to sit through lectures that i feel comfortable with and not intimidated by. i'm not saying i know it all by any means, but the fact that i know some makes studying more enjoyable. i needed this. here is a very simplistic

i'm in the market for a new camera. my hard working and dependable little point and shoot digital camera has officially perished. it got me through 5 great years of my life. here are a couple of pictures from its first summer of life:

so, i am trying to decide if i should branch out and purchase a slightly fancier camera capable of more artistic photos, or if i should stick to the basic digital. i sort of feel like i should invest in a more complex camera so that i can get some good touristy photos when i get around to sightseeing. but i don't even know where to begin. dear photographer friends: can you suggest a type of camera for a girl like me? also, are these sorts of things available used? thanks in advance for the feedback. you people rock.
ok e and i are off to study more genetics, and then to watch modern family (yahoo!).

Kate, I hate to break this to you, but last winter, DC had to endure snowfall so bad that people were trapped in their homes. So... Winter is actually worse in DC than it is in KC.

and as for your camera....having a nicer one is really nice, but honestly, lugging it around is a big pain. i end up never using it, unless i am being a tourist, because it is so annoying to carry around. however, when i am a tourist, it is nice! so i guess it depends if you want one you can always carry around or one that is just fancier. small ones these days take super nice photos though!
