princess eleanor rose is famous

super cute photos of eleanor, not so much of me. don't look at the girl holding the dog. however, it was a nice privilege to be on the andrew sullivan blog, gq, npr, and ap yesterday! sort of silly, sort of gimmicky, but hopefully it ended up raising a little awareness about the issue at hand: that is, the importance of the individual mandate in the affordable care act to encourage individual responsibility and systemic change for the better [and more affordable]. of course no one quoted me as saying that, only some silly musing about eleanor's puppy insurance [i didn't realize i was on the record! apparently you always are!].

anyway, we [doctors for america represent!] headed down to the supreme court monday morning to show a little support for the aca. it was so nice to see different groups there supporting the law as well, like now and a group of people of faith for health care. it is a good example that this bill has far reaching benefits for those in all walks of life. for some strange reason, rick santorum showed up around noon to say "hey". it wasn't really his type of crowd.

bottom line is: i hope the supreme court gets it right.

i'm so sorry for the hiatus!

ellie and i are being the epitome of lazy by sleeping in, reading, visiting family, and doing some extreme relaxing. today we're about to break that trend by heading up to steamboat springs for some touristing/admiring the scenery. you know how we do.
i would be remiss to not end this post by saying - congratulations to abby and adam for their engagement this week!! they are my dear friends and such a wonderful couple. mazal (mazel?) tov, you two!!

xoxo,

kate and eleanor

tornado watch

hey team! ellie and i are reporting from the tail end of a tornado watch for dc. i'm fairly certain that we won't see tornadoes in our region, but if we do then we are quite prepared since we come from hurricane alley, the heart of 'merica (i'm not super proud to claim missouri today, because of this atrocity. i'm not ready to talk about it yet).

happier news is that i filled out a 5 minute survey on diversity at my school and obtained a $15 itunes gift card as a thank you! love it. but what to purchase? i need your feedback! i don't want to waste my free money. should i get the new florence + the machine album? fleet foxes? death cab for cutie? netters neuroscience flashcards for my ipod? feel free to voice your opinion!

also i just did my obligatory etsy search for cute craft items applicable to my current module. apparently the crafting community greatly enjoys brains. my search yielded many cute results!
(arteries of brain look sort of like a monster)
brain slugs
brain skull cap! ingenious!
soap
anyway, that's all. i'm going to learn things now to try to distract myself from abused puppies and possible tornadic events.

much love,

kate and the princess

ps this is what i did to my toe before the Easter brunch (which is a tale for another post) (my toe bled more and felt way worse than the picture shows) (but we all know that i can be a bit of a whiner)

debbie downer

today was sort of sad. i never feel particularly happy after checking the news, but obviously today's news was worse than normal.

dear japan: i'm feeling so distressed about your loss. you'll be in the thoughts and prayers of millions across the globe.

it's the soberest feeling.

luckily, in this situation global neighbors tend to step up and offer a bit of help with damage control. but what if global neighbors recognized not only these acute events of destruction, but also the everyday destructions that occur below our industrialized and privileged radar?

anyway. that's deep enough for now. this post is dedicated to my Japanese reader that google stats tells me that i have. hello Japanese reader. i sincerely hope that you and your family are safe and sound. you're in my prayers. tomorrow morning day will break again in the land of the rising sun and in a few weeks the cherry blossoms will start to bloom and this too shall pass.

xoxo,

k and e

p.s. to make it an even worse news day, maryland's equality in marriage bill died today.

p.p.s. i hate leaving things on a sad note. happily, i've found my next knitting project courtesy of pickles:
knitted pouf stool - so cute
