aca = upheld

today was such a lovely morning. even though eleanor and i hustled down to the supreme court, got obscenely sweaty, and got up close and personal with all sorts of humans, it was all totally worth it when scotus blog announced the ruling - that the aca would be upheld completely except for one provision re: expansion of medicaid and the crowd erupted in cheers of usa! usa! usa! what a relief that was! ellie and i are proud to be americans today.

however, we can't forget:

the one with no photographs

hi dearies!

i have been nervous to post because i haven't taken any pictures. i don't think y'all just want to hear my general musings - i am sure you only stop by to see cute pics of the cutest dog alive. she's still being cute, she is also just being slightly neglected due to all the activities mentioned in the blog post of last.

it's kay, though. i have a plan. and i like this new feeling that summer 2012 brings. it's sort of a 'no matter what gets thrown my way, i can probably handle it so bring it on' feeling that makes me feel tired but deeply energized at the same time. i'm afraid none of this makes sense but it's nice to just put it out there anyway.

working at this place is pretty rewarding. even though a lot of what i do is menial, some isn't. even though what we do seems futile sometimes, it mostly isn't. even though working 2 jobs and maintaining friendships and being a good dog mom seems impossible, it isn't.

here's to these good times.

and the good times that are coming this weekend, when the eastern winds are bringing in some of the pieces of my heart that i left in kansas city. get excited to hear about some epic friendship time starting friday!

yipee!

love,

k and princess eleanor

monday

i just had one of the longest days in like, ever.

the sort of day where you don't actually remember the morningtime. oh, that's right. i woke up early and biked to cap. i thought i was thinking ahead by wearing athletic clothes and changing there. but alas, i was drenched from head to toe upon arrival. good thing i got in first before everybody else and so no one saw me.

then i forgot to pay the gas bill, so the girls upstairs had to text and remind me.

then i remembered that i need to go visit the doctor but i keep putting it off. because when?!

then i tried to focus on work all morning. i found out that i've been slacking on eleanor's tweets, too.

after slogging through the day, i took off an hour early to get to my first tutoring appointment.

travel travel travel.

then i forgot the proper lesson book for tutoring session number one - airhead.

made it on time for tutoring session #2, thank goodness. tutoring student #2 gave me cookies. what a nice gesture!

got home, and got covered in a spider web. almost touched a TARANTULA [i know it was a tarantula because it had huge hairy legs] when taking out the trash. tried to clean the apt and found a centi or millipede trying to chill out in my space. why?!

finally got through the lesson plan for tomorrow, the first evening of the big mcat class i'm teaching. physics. blerg.

looking at 12 hour days for the next week.

i've never been this worn out on a monday.

i've also never been this grateful to be this worn out on a monday.

life is good.

sweet dreams, dear friends.

salty sweat rolls forth

i've seen the future.

i will wash my clothes no less than 2x per week in this sweltering heat.

i roll in the door and just start peeling my clothes off, layer by layer. they are soaked through with sweat, sweat, and more sweat - it's not pretty! it got pretty hot back in kc, but i was never required to propel myself through space with my own muscles, so i think that changes everything. life without a car is usually pretty rewarding and probably the reason i haven't ballooned up, but it is trying nonetheless.

speaking of hot hot heat: i'm going to vegas with some goons in early july! it's going to be hot and it's going to be off the hook. i miss these characters:
anyway, gotsta go get some work done for my jobs - kaplan and cap. i'll tell you more about those later. in the meantime:

puppy cam.

and tonight is the season finale of
mad men. click this link. it will definitely blow your mind.

the gorgeous weather

i can't tell you how nice it feels to do the summertime thing. it's hot, it's sticky, but my brain's on a break. i'm reading books for fun and getting sunburned [!] poolside and working on tracking down some BOULEVARD BEER that has finally made its way to the district. what could be better?!
and ohmigosh there is a NEW LITTER OF SHIBA INU PUPPIES! listen, i don't condone purposeful breeding. puppies and kitties are overpopulated. but it is not humanly possible to resist this website.

peace to you,

kate and smeleanor

books

“i still love books. nothing a computer can do can compare to a book. you can't really put a book on the internet . . . all the computer can give you is a manuscript. people don't want to read manuscripts. they want to read books. books smell good. they look good. you can press it to your bosom. you can carry it in your pocket.”
[ray bradbury]

i agree wholeheartedly, mr. bradbury. and while i'm at it, thanks for all your contributions to literature and to me. the martian chronicles offered inspiration during my nutty formative years. you'll be sorely missed.

speaking of books and how they should be printed in actual book form, what should go on my summer reading list? i got a legit dc library card and am now ready for a long list of literature to peruse.

more later!
