music to look forward to

this is lord huron in a terribly interesting [if not a little gruesome] music video of their new single "time to run" from the upcoming album 'lonesome dreams' (find npr's assessment here). i, for one, am excited for the entire album to drop in october. i'm a sucker for this brand of pop-y synth-y goodness.

dc love

this list exemplifies one of the things i love about living in dc - a weekend chock full of interesting and ridiculous events to choose from [not even including the obligatory brunches, farmers markets, yoga, and patio drinking that an average weekend holds].

fun.

too bad i'll be busy with school the entire time. dc friends - get out there!

personally i'd like to do this one:
or this one:
and eat at this one:
fojol bros - via dc eater
seriously dc friends - have a great weekend!

a good browbeating

this quote from orrin hatch [npr] is exactly what's wrong with the debate about health reform.

it is not about something as petty as "the left's terms" vs. "the right's terms".

it is not about one side or another "winning" the health care debate.

it's about people.

it's about showing the world that we care enough about our citizens to ensure that they have a basic right to a healthy life.

that as a civilized society, we find it abhorrant that someone should die because they don't have enough $$$.

it's about patients. over politics.

end of soapbox for today.

love you, my darlings

patients over politics bus tour

it's kind of funny the way my last two posts were happy with a neat video and then sad, sad, sad with a poem because things are so senseless sometimes. blerg doesn't cover it when such sad losses occur [such as last friday's].

-----------------

anyway - other things. planning for the patients over politics bus tour is going well. that is something positive to look forward to - people are getting super excited to take a material action to show that the health care system as it is is unacceptable. sign the up for the virtual bus tour through the link, and if you'd like to join us on the tour we'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to have you!

alright. back to work. today is made better by the new passion pit album that was just released. love it!

xoxo,

we are born

we are
born like this
into this
into these carefully mad wars
into the sight of broken factory windows of emptiness
into bars where people no longer speak to each other
into fist fights that end as shootings and knifings
born into this
into hospitals which are so expensive that it’s cheaper to die
into lawyers who charge so much it’s cheaper to plead guilty
into a country where the jails are full and the madhouses closed
into a place where the masses elevate fools into rich heroes
