irritated

hi there! sorry i'm so lame at posting. ya know, its the back to school thing. and a test in 1 week. augh! so i may or may not be around much the next few days.

i decided to post today to whine about government. specifically, the silly little temper tantrum the right side of the aisle is throwing about the affordable care act. and the fact that they are trying to repeal it. even though that's not really possible with a still-left-side-controlled senate. i am not sure what they're trying to accomplish, except maybe to show from day one that there will be no bipartisanship and cooperation in this 112th congress. but what's new. blergh.

kate out.

(e is irritated too. she pretends like it's because she wants to play with the laser every waking second of the day, but i know it's actually because she is sad with the state of gov in the us)

(also, i'll post some pictures soon. the apartment is in the middle of some redecorating to beat the winter blues)

things that are funny

this morning i was blithely packing my bags, getting ready to fly on back to the district, reading leisure books, and basking in the comfort and laziness of vacation. i even spent some time pondering how lovely the sky looked (?!). upon returning home, however, i was greeted by a messy apartment (never leave your place messy before leaving for long periods of time!), a very uncomfortably full calendar for the week ahead, and rent due without the new semester's financial aid delivered. blergh. back to real life. time to take a deep breath and jump in.

however, in order to survive this new year i need to focus on the positives:
-i saw so much of my friends and family over the break which was so so therapeutic
-e was a perfect airline-flying angel. just some little whines here and there, but by and large she was super easygoing and sleepy the whole time.
-i got to read 1.5 regular books
-the sky really did look pretty today
-i'm loved, and that makes everything worth it

missing you,

goals

just a lil list of what i'd love to do this year. not resolutions, and if i don't do them then whatev. but its nice to have a list to look at. and i really want to do each of these things like whoa.

1. make a cardboard deer head for my wall  ($58 online, but made from cardboard . . . i can do it!!)
2. get a high pass in at least one class
3. run a road race. can be any distance, but must achieve a non-embarrassing time
4. find a church that fits me
5. write a letter per month to someone that i love
6. watch fewer tv shows
7. hit all the museums in my awesome city

i'm a lucky girl

this break has been really amazing. being in my hometown and seeing the friends i've loved for forever is so relaxing and rejuvenating. i would be lucky if i only had one of these wonderful friends, but instead i have more than i can count on my fingers. i'm also having a lovely time making new friends. just when i think i think i'll burst at the seams with friends i find out that i can fit more in! how does one girl get this lucky. i don't know.

anyway, i'm staying with my dear friend k who i miss every day when i'm away at school. e is in love with playing with her bff m - they're a little ornery-but-drop-dead-cute-who-me? team.
since i've arrived home i've just attempted to see all the people i possibly can. here is evidence:
red eye attack . . . oops
no one told me to lose the nerdy gloves for the photo, blergh
anyway, just some quick pics to hold you over till the new year. thanks for stopping by and having a read :) i hope to keep you entertained in 2011 as i do my thing and keep it real.

xoxo,

what a trip

hello dear friends!

my little bro and i got to go skiing yesterday, which was a lovely, lovely time. since i haven't been in a couple of years (great sadness!) it took awhile to get warmed up. regardless, it was wonderful to get back out on the slopes. i shan't go this long again without getting my ski fix!

i'm so looking forward to the next few days. it's strange to be blogging now because a good chunk of the people i started writing updates for are gathered round with me - it is uncommon and nice. but i also am missing all of you that i haven't seen in ages! i hope you are having a wonderful holiday and are surrounded by loved ones!

hard work sometimes pays off

so, i worked my tail off for 1 week prior to the cardio exam. i was very on edge because 1 week was probably not enough. after i took the exam last friday, i was pretty unsure about how went (i could have done horribly or acceptably ok or just fine) but yesterday i thankfully found out that i missed even fewer questions than i marked as confusing and got a big fat P! how about that for a holiday miracle. and now i know things about hearts. and circulation. not all the things there are to know, but a good chunk more than i knew 2 weeks ago.

now i can spend time relaxing with family and wrapping gifts and lounging and skiing and eating and drinking and being merry. what more could you ask for?

you should know that e is having an amazing time here (at my parent's house) - she has command of the backyard, and her grandparents and aunt and uncle are doting on her like the princess that she is. not to mention that i can spend more quality time exercising with her now that my nose isn't stuck in a book. it will be fun while it lasts!
