hello dear friends. I’m terribly sorry its been so long since we’ve talked. there has been much going on. i have finished genetics and am now well into a class called limbs – it is exactly what it sounds like: the anatomy of arms and legs. awesome. not so awesome are the dissections. obviously we talked about this last time, but the real deal is that i do not enjoy cutting into cadavers. i haven’t passed out or thrown up yet, but i also won’t eliminate that as a possibility. i’m still pretty convinced that there are other effective ways to teach anatomy to medical students, but i’ll keep you posted on that.
last friday i was super lucky to get to go to the white house to see the president off on his big asia trip. mr danny s was able to finagle it so that michelle, abby, andrew, bre and i could get clearance to accompany him to the send off on the south lawn of the wh friday morning. it was really exciting to be so close to the west wing, the rose garden, and the obamas themselves (they waved at us). i hope we didn’t embarrass daniel too much. see photos below.

after hopping home from the wh, i said goodbye to my little critter e and left her in p’s capable hands for the weekend while i jetted off to boston for a mini vacay with my amazing auntie cassy and my lovely cousin jenn. i’d never been to boston so it was a pretty exciting and fun-filled weekend. on friday we had some yum dinner and turned in early so we could be well rested for a full day on saturday. saturday was a genuine blast: we strolled along newberry street, we maneuvered the freedom trail, saw the sights at faneuil hall, ate boston crème pie at the parker house, hit up h&m due to my freezing feet (i got some amazing boots that i really hope are imitation suede and not real) ran into miss virginia lea in the back of a fine fast food establishment (what a fun surprise!), got some cannoli from mike’s pastries, drank a pint at a faux irish pub (no irish music??) had a yummy dinner at regina’s pizza, and headed out in search of a genuine irish pub to grab a few more pints. unfortunately that was easier said than done. we hit up the green lantern which was not quite irish, but was playing the kstate v texas game which went quite well for our boys in purple (go state!). after the game we finally found a large bar with live irish music, horray! we met a large rowdy group of canadian military men (i know, right? i didn’t know there was a military in canada, either) who kept us quite entertained for the duration of the evening until it was time to go back to the hotel, drink some wine, relax and have girl talk.

this morning we had a bit of a slow start. we woke up late, and finally got out the door just after noon. miss emily fine graced us with her presence for a while, and it was so great to see her! we did a little shopping and a lot of catching up. cass and i continued to explore the newberry street area and i scored some good souvenirs. i got e a stuffed lobster which was so, so cute (current status of lobster souvenir = destroyed). obviously i didn’t really eat any seafood while in boston due to my vegetarianism, but i couldn’t pass up the cute lil lobster toy for my pup. after a bit, none other than julie duncan met up with us to say “hey”, and she joined us for some dinner! we had a fabulous dinner at a little joint called “the other side” that had an amazing vegetarian chili and vegan blt. i was in heaven. there were like 10 other items from the menu i wanted to order, but i had to settle on only two things. that was crazy and exciting since typically my herbivore diet pretty much eliminates 95% of the menu. the world needs more places like “the other side” no doubt.

all in all i had a fabulous time exploring and catching up with family and friends. i am glad to be home though. my little pup e is ready for sleep and i have a long day tomorrow, so it's time to sign off. thanks for reading, and i hope you had an awesome weekend.
xoxo,
