a rainy day

day three was a rainy one.

so naturally we got in a quick morning swim in the heated salt water pool (i forgot what a terrible lap swimmer i am) and then headed over to the botanical gardens for a jaunt (after having an amazing burrito at a joint called tijuana flats). it was just beautiful.

 too many pictures? sorry!!!!

out to enjoy the sun again,

deux

day number two was amazing. the sun came out in full force to warm the sands and the sea and welcome us properly to vacation. in a morning game of tennis, i felt sweat bead up on my brow for the first time in many months. it felt awfully good.

my favorite parts of the day were not able to be lassoed by the camera's lens - the way princess eleanor chased the tennis ball back and forth as we volleyed, her tongue flopping out of her mouth most happily, nor the savory taste of the best veggie burger i've ever sunk my teeth into. especially not the way i fell asleep curled safely up on the couch while my hair was absentmindedly played with. but, some fun things were captured nonetheless:

breakfast of champions
out the front door
tennis courts
the beach!
is it just me, or does this bikini make me look like i've had work done?
lunch on the beach
dolphins!
must end the evening poolside

we're deposited safely on the beach and enjoying the hell out of it!

and, my cold is almost all gone to boot.

more soon,

news roll

the pope calls for austerity in the church! pope francis asserts: "Francis of Assisi, for me he is the man of poverty, the man of peace, the man who loves and protects others." well said sir, well said.

also, if you're an arrested development fan (ammiright??):
maryland puts the death penalty to death!

north korea keeps testing missiles. :(

i got these shoes. arg loove them!
i'm almost finished with the cold i alluded to on wednesday's post about the pope and burritos. it's been a rough couple of days.

but -

leaving tomorrow for the south! vacation, here we come! ellie is really looking forward to the beach (she told me). she can't wait to swim in the pool, either. pics will be forthcoming, i assure you.

burritos and the papacy

hello hello and what's what?

sorry again for not posting in, like, forever. but mom, i know you're not disappointed because i've been calling you every day anyway! and i'm pretty sure that you're the only one who reads anymore. wah wahhhhh.

anyway, i felt led to post today because i just ordered chipotle for delivery. that sounds reasonable, right? chipotle is yummy. but. but! guess how much it costs to have chipotle delivered to your door?

20 buckaroos.

that's right.

20 hot ones!

wow.

well, that happened. and i had to share. the reason i felt ok about it is because i am not feeling well. do you know what it's like when you feel a cold coming on and start to feel really sorry for yourself and get really lazy and there is only one thing in the world that sounds palatable? that is that and on its way it is.

i guess we'll see if it even arrives. that is definitely iffy due to the third party nature of the website from which i ordered it.

in other news, it was fun to watch the announcement of the newest pope master funk today. perhaps i haven't talked about it much on my blerg, but i'm slightly and inherently skeptical of a religion that is solely run by gentleman folk (of course i love gentleman folk but i think there is room for lady folks in the hierarchy of religion most assuredly and always). therefore, i sat with bated breath to see if they'd choose a rabble rouser (yeahh!) or a ceremonial figurehead (boo!).

when cardinal jorge bergoglio was announced in all the high church (=latin) pomp and circumstance, i think it took everyone a bit to get their bearings. who is this guy and why does his name sound south american?

ok, ok his name doesn't necessarily sound south american. but maybe it does? ok. so it's spanish. could have been european or south american. or african? why do i think an african person can't have a spanish name?

anyway. way off the point. so far, what do we know of this new pope francis? well, we know that he named himself after st. francis of assisi. you know this girl likes that right off the bat because st francis was a lover of the poor, the disenfranchised, and those who couldn't speak for themselves (especially animals and the environment). he was basically a tree hugging hippie. i'm praying that this choice of name was a nod in that direction.

he's also a jesuit, which typically conveys a more social justice minded cleric. the "jevvies" are known as scholars and gentlemen who like to "shake things up" (per my grandfather via my mother). here's to hoping.

signing off,

k and e (this dog couldn't be less interested in popes or more interested in burritos)
here's a fire to listen to as you're reading and digesting
